Kinsy Selby attended Black Hills State University with a Bachelors of Fine Art in both photography and studio art. Influenced by the art and culture of Philadelphia that surrounded her as a young child, Kinsy works in several mediums such as printmaking and mixed media with an emphasis on photography. Her work typically relates to themes of gender, love, and mental health from a sociological standpoint, and serves as a safe space for productive discussions on important social issues. Kinsy’s work has been included in several exhibitions on campus and throughout the Black Hills.

“The true artist helps the world by revealing mystic truths”

- Bruce Nauman

The temptation of creativity has followed me all my life. As an artist working across multiple mediums, my sole intent is to create emotional and meaningful work that transcends boundaries and sparks unexpected interactions. I am most inspired by my experiences as a young female and the constraints of gender roles, the transcending themes of love, and the importance of human compassion. My work is created to serve as a common ground, a place and question where people can have productive conversations about complex issues. I have most recently been driven to create work discussing the struggles and judgements of drug addiction and the significance of empathy in these intricate situations.
